One of the most popular phrases in Business schools across the world is “Culture eats Strategy for Breakfast”.

And although Peter Drucker’s saying might be true for many aspects of life, when it comes to Employer Brand - your strategy and culture are intertwined, and one is heavily influenced by the other.

And as Q1 is quickly approaching - we’ve created a checklist to help you build your strategy.

Define your goals - It’s time to go back to basics and examine the goals for the upcoming year. Have the business priorities changed? What’s our north star? Understanding the direction the org is going and how it impacts our hiring needs and employer brand to ensure our strategy is relevant. Best way to execute this? Short conversations with leadership will do the trick.

☐ Turned them into measurements - Before figuring out the right approach for each goal and business need, we need to translate our goals (i.e. - Becoming the leading employee in cyber security) into measurements - Winning #1 place in Dunn’s 100. Once we have measurements in place - we can start building the needed strategy for achieving those goals.

☐ Prioritize - Now that we’ve defined what we aim to achieve, it’s time to find the best course of action. Employer Branding and Recruitment Marketing allow for a huge span of activations and areas of influence - and most likely we don’t have the resources to do all. When prioritizing think about ROIs - how much resources are required vs. potential gain. Best strategies include lots of activities with medium impact and low effort and a few activities with high impact and high effort.

☐ Group - Once all the activities are listed and prioritized, it’s time to group them together into pillars. Grouping them can help eliminate duplication of work and create synergy for holistic planning.

☐ Prioritize again - Now that we’ve created our pillars - it’s time to prioritize again. Looking into which pillar requires the most resources and will generate the highest ROI.

☐ Create the framework - How are the pillars tying together? Have we neglected any area we needed to focus on? Reviewing the pillars from the goals lens again will help us determine if we’re missing anything or if we’ve covered all our bases.

Once your strategy is ready - It's time to build your yearly plan.
